What is Parelli
Parelli Natural Horsemanship (PNH) allows horse lovers, at any level and in any discipline, to achieve the desired results without the use of force, partnership with the horse without dominance, teamwork without fear, his availability without intimidation, harmony together without coercion.

Founded in 1981 by Pat Parelli, horseman and teacher since ever, PNH uses principles of practical psychology and communication; but unlike most training programs, the method is aimed at people, not horses. At the beginning of his career, Pat realized that horses already have all the skills to relate to their peers and the environment: it is the addition of the “human” element that complicates things.

Horse owners who follow PNH have discovered that the greatest gift they have received in doing so is that the method improves not only the relationship and communication with their horse, but also all the other relational aspects of their life.

“People realize that this is what they have always looked for in all their relationships,” says Pat, “a balance of Love, Language and Leadership in equal doses. The program and the horse itself provide them with a living model so that they can practice and become skilled in all their relationships, they are not those with the horse “.

The method “deeply affects personal growth,” says Linda. “You learn to understand yourself better, and deal with topics such as communication, truth, consequences, responsibility, love and imagination. The horse becomes the animal that tells you the truth about yourself on all these matters. “

The PNH aims to improve the lives of horses and humans by improving their relationship, advocating the vision of the horse as a partner rather than a simple tool; in fact it uses techniques but mainly wants to develop in the students the ability to better understand the horses (and invariably themselves).

It takes two days to learn what the Parelli Natural Horsemanship is, but it takes a lifetime to master it (…) That’s why it’s called horse-man-ship: horse (horse) and human (man) on a boat (ship), who undertake a journey together “(Pat Parelli)

Parelli Pathway

Pat soon realized, at the beginning of his career as a horse trainer, that it was useless to train horses perfectly to return them to unprepared owners. Rather, by leading people to deepen their understanding of the horse, they could discover and fully develop their talents and potentials.

Pat calls “Savvy” this instinctive knowledge, that knowing exactly “when to be there, where to be there, why to be there … and what to do when one is there”. And he reveals: “The savvy is learned. I too learned it, because I did not have a particular talent for working with horses, but I had a lot of desire and will. In my program I show you the path I have traveled to find it really, and without all the “deviations” that have lengthened my way “.

It is mainly about working on oneself: “work on yourself and play with your horse”.

Four Savvy and 10 Levels The study of the program is structured in Quattro Savvy (areas with horses):

OL – OnLinefrom the ground to the rope
(strings of increasing length)
FS – FreeStylemount without contact
(long reins, then without reins)
LI – Libertyfrom the ground, in freedom
(in ever larger spaces)
FI – Finessefit with contact
(concentrated reins and precision)

and in ten skill levels, of which the first four are focused on teaching people, to help them learn the skills necessary to become natural horsemen, and constitute the “foundation” that is the true specialty of Parelli:

Level 1PARTNERSHIPSafety
Level 2HARMONYConfidence
Level 3FINISHINGAbility
Level 4VERSATILITYMastery

In the first four levels the Four Savvy are progressively faced according to this scheme:

To obtain the Official Levels (with certificate and Savvy String colored) it is necessary to pass the exams for all the Savvy foreseen at that level:
